Inaugural SESI cohort completes inaugural Makerspace course at Sac City!

20 students from our STEM Equity & Success Initiative (SESI) have completed our debut SCC Makerspace Course, also known as INDIS (Interdisciplinary Studies) 499. This eight week course, facilitated by Professors Terry Peterson and Tom Cappelletti, the first of its kind, introduced these students to making, shop skills, critical thinking, and pathways to internships and jobs! Several SESI students will also participate in the CCC Maker Internships slated for this April here at Sac City. SESI seeks to increase the enrollment and success of Latinx/a/o and economically disadvantaged students in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) programs in their transition from high school to college and ultimately degree completion, transfer, and career opportunity.

The program includes early college STEAM experiences, a summer transition program that prepares students for college success, and a learning community that features hands-on STEAM courses with highly integrated support services throughout their college career at SCC. STEAM fields at SCC include a wide range of degree and certificate programs including Graphic Communication, Biology, Computer Information Sciences, Engineering and many more.
