4th Annual Maker Show at Truckee Roundhouse – June 10th, 2018, 11 am – 5 pm
Sierra Makerspaces and the Sierra College mobile Welding lab participated in the Truckee Roundhouse Annual Maker Show, a day of interactive arts, technologies, hobbies and projects along with food trucks, beer, live music by SNEAKY CREATURES, art cars, mini-maker activities, silent auction and raffle prizes. The Maker Show was a fundraiser for the Truckee Roundhouse (makerspace) incorporating fun and interactive events for curious and creative people of all ages. Attendees experienced cool things this community of makers created and also toured the Roundhouse.
Tahoe Truckee Campus Executive Dean, Kim Bateman, said, “A warm thank you to all—the energy of our booth all day was really exciting and the event itself was well executed (thanks Melissa!). Bill was abuzz at his welding truck. Heather/Quirky/Kaylee — the 3D pens were a huge hit (and the dinosaur template was perfect). Valaine—thank you for becoming an expert in death and dying and reflections in cloth. Louisa— when the 10 year old boy got so into the sewing —it made me smile (then and now). Your steadfast competence and support is appreciated. Steve and Dominic rocked the tops (and the engineering of the broken pop up). Thanks to Rebecca and Michael for managing the games (and schlepping water); Liz for her lovely grace and passion for sustainable agriculture; Quirky for the intense and soulful gift of her music (soooo beautiful) and a huge shout out to Todd—for his hour and a half long EXTREME dishwashing efforts (so so thankful).
I am excited for the next year with Rene as our new Faculty Maker in Residence, and Zoe continuing in her role as student maker. Todd and I are cooking up some great stuff on both internships and workshops for maker educators. We are also facilitating a community wide project through the Truckee Tomorrow program called “Growing Our Own.” We are poised to take this ethos to the next level.”
