Fourteen Sierra College Mechatronics students attended the Fall 2017 Startup Hustle Showcase at Hacker Lab (makerspace and coworking space) in mid-town Sacramento on November 13. More than 100 makers and community members showed up for the standing-room-only event. An entrepreneur from the spring 2017 Startup Hustle program updated the crowd on his developing product and progress, and five new entrepreneurs presented product concepts they had created and tested while participating in the 6-week bootcamp. Dan Casas-Murray, the event MC and a entrepreneur himself, presented a concept and model that he is developing for small businesses that need food refrigeration. Startup Hustle was sponsored by the DSN Advanced Manufacturing and other businesses and community partners. Transportation for the students was supported by regional Strong Workforce initiative funding through a Business Entrepreneurship project.
Students said that they enjoyed talking to the speakers afterwards, seeing the creative startup pitches and prototype products. seeing young adults present, and hearing new ideas.
