Ed Stockton, Founder, President/CEO, Hydrogen Technologies, Inc. in Stockton and Ashok Ramaswami, Founder and CEO, Seqnc Inc. in Pleasant Hill will be the keynote speakers. Sierra College students who have developed business plans will pitch their startup ideas to mentors who are successful founders of businesses in the Sacramento region. As part of the program, the mentors ask questions and provide advice to the students. The audience members gain insights that could encourage them to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams.

“There is no fee to attend, apply to pitch or receive feedback from the mentors”

According to Steve Ricketts, Founder, SRickettsConsulting, a volunteer who brought the Startup Pitch Mentor Round Concept to Sierra College, this is the third Startup Mentor event held this school year. “There is no fee to attend, apply to pitch or receive feedback from the mentors,” said Ricketts. “Successful founders want to give back by nurturing student startups with honest advice. By offering referrals to resources at no charge, we can increase entrepreneurial activity in the Sacramento region. Students and local entrepreneurs are welcome to attend and be inspired by Ed Stockton and Ashok Ramaswami who will tell their tales of launching successful companies.”

Feedback on the Startup Pitch Mentor Round from Sierra College faculty and students has been very positive, explained Amy Schulz, Dean, Business and Technology Division. “Students can see the possibilities when they take a startup pitch prototyped in an entrepreneurial business class and share it with seasoned business owners who have a genuine interest in helping them,” said Schulz. “Sierra College has many resources to help those who dream of starting their own businesses including clubs, events, makerspaces, classes, certificates and degrees focused on entrepreneurship. There is support at Sierra College for those who want to form new businesses.”
