Sierra College and Sierra Makerspaces University Innovation Fellow

Sierra College student and Sierra Makerspaces participant Savanna Turner completed Stanford’s University Innovation Fellows program three-day training at the Stanford d-school.  229 students from 62 higher education institutions in 10 countries have been named as 2017-2018 University Innovation Fellows.  Jonathan Schwartz, Sierra College part-time faculty member, is a UIF student adviser.

In preparation for the training, Savanna completed a a six-week, online training where she connected with a national network of Fellows and conducted interviews with Sierra College faculty and administrators to provide feedback on four proposed projects to implement in spring 2018.  The new Fellows gathered at the d.school November 16-19, 2017 for a Silicon Valley Meetup where they learned about building movements, activating spaces for innovation, designing learning experiences, and new models for change in higher education.

A special treat was meeting John Edmark and seeing his Fibonacci zoetrope sculpture. To learn more about his sculptures, see https://www.arch2o.com/fibonacci-zoetrope-sculpture-john-edmark/
