Sierra Board of Trustees learn about student internships

The Sierra College Board of Trustees are excited about upcoming student internships offered through the CCC Maker initiative.  At the January 9, 2018 board meeting, trustees were briefed by statewide project director Carol Pepper-Kittredge, Technical Assistance Provider Deborah Bird, and Sierra Makerspaces project manager Dominic Gutierrez.

The Sierra Makerspaces team conducted an outreach event at the Nevada County Campus (Grass Valley) in December 2017 and received interest applications from 20 students.   Approximately 10 students are expected to participate in a January 2018 New World of Work training (earning two badges), tour the Curious Forge makerspace, and learn how to use a laser cutter taught by recent graduate Heather Lincoln.  The NorTEC Job Training Agency will help students develop a Linked In presence and portfolio, and publish a resume.  Upon completion, students will be placed in paid internships.

Outreach and training efforts will also take place at the Tahoe Truckee Campus and the Rocklin Campus later this spring.
