Sacramento City College Makerspace Students Produce PPE

Students from the Sacramento City College (SCC) Makerspace are using the three laser cutters at Hacker Lab in Midtown Sacramento to cut out the PETG plastic for the face shields, reports Tom Cappelletti, Professor and Faculty Project Director SCC Makerspace.

“They are also making the proto shields that don’t require the 3D printers,” said Cappelletti. “That being said, we were able to move five 3D printers to Hacker Lab also, as we are not allowed on campus, and with them, have begun to make those ear savers.”  More on ear savers

The SSC makerspace has ordered the clear plastic, elastic and some additional PLA. Cappelletti estimates that this can be used to make a few thousand items. In addition, a few students with sewing machines are making the cloth masks that everyone be wearing for a while, he believes.
