Santa Maria, California–The first meeting of Hancock College’s Makerspace Advisory Committee was an incredibly fruitful one. Hosted by our community partner, the Santa Maria Public Library, representatives from Allan Hancock, the Santa Maria Valley Discovery Museum, Orcutt Academy’s K-8 school, the Pacific Conservatory Theatre, STEAMTrunk, and the Family Partnership Charter Schools got together to discuss the next steps for our Maker Ecosystem.
- Hancock, the Public Library, and the Discovery Museum sharing their visions for each entities’ Makerspace.
- AHC’s Makerspace Club, a place for making enthusiasts to come and find like-minded individuals to discuss, plan, and make with. The club will also serve as a recruitment pool for our internship program, and also to provide students with a means of staying in contact after they transfer to other colleges or move into industry. Our first meeting is Friday, September 23rd.
- Plans for a collaborative Holiday Makerspace on Saturday, December 9th. December 2nd is the Santa Maria Holiday Parade, and our mobile Makerspace trailer will be in the parade–decked out in lights and with community volunteers to hand out flyers for the following weeks Makerspace.
The next meeting of the Advisory Committee will be October 27th, hosted at the Discovery Museum.
