Faculty Create “Crafternoons” to Build Community

More than 20 Sierra College faculty members and friends attended the first in a series of “Crafternoons” held at Hacker Lab Powered by Sierra College on May 25.  Created by Mathematics Professor Katherine Lucero and supported by Sierra Makerspaces creative consultant Heather Lincoln, the series is designed to invite faculty into the makerspace and have a fun time using low and high-tech equipment.  Their first project created customized etched wine glasses (the glasses were donated by a member).  Heather developed examples to inspire participants, and set up three laptops with artwork to quickly design the etching pattern.  Student leader Quirky lead a cork art project to show how surplus or reclaimed materials could be used to create something new.
