Earth Day student outreach

Sierra Makerspaces took the laser cutter out to the Quad for Earth Day celebrations on April 19 from 9am to 3pm to let students play and customize messages etched into river rocks.  Heather, a Sierra alumna and Creative Consultant for the project, also brought paint and brushes so students could further customize their product.  Arts Council of Placer County joined Sierra Makerspaces in the booth, letting student clubs know that, if they volunteered for an upcoming Earth Day celebration over the weekend, they could earn $300!  The ACPC is holding an ‘Arts Challenge’ on April 21 where local artists are making sculptures from books that would have gone to the landfill.  An example of what artists have created is shown below, created by Diane, an Administrative Assistant in Sierra’s Business & Technology Division!
