Colfax teacher (and Sierra faculty member and University Innovation Fellow mentor) wins $100k

Jonathan Schwartz and the Colfax HS CTE team have been strong partners with Sierra College since 2007 when the Sierra STEM Collaborative was formed to rebuild high school labs and programs focused on advanced manufacturing, innovation and making.  Jonathan serves as Sierra College’s University Innovation Fellows faculty mentor, is a founder of the Sierra Makerspaces initiative, teaches part-time for the College, and teaches full time at Colfax HS Math and Engineering programs.  He has lead three student teams under the Lemelsen-MIT Inventeam initiative, is the inventor of numerous tools (most recently – True Square – a Woodpecker Tool of the Month), and helped the high school win a Golden Bell Award for the team’s development and institutionalization of Design Thinking into HS curriculum.

No surprise, then, when Harbor Freight Tools held a surprise reveal October 26, 2017 at Colfax HS to award Jonathan $100,000 in the Tools for Schools initiative.  Jonathan was one of three awardees nationally, selected from a nomination pool of more than 700 applicants.
