June 15 Newsletter Provides Initiative Updates

In May and early June, CCC Maker Colleges celebrated the completion of the seed grant makerspace planning phase.

  • 28 colleges presented their implementation plans at the culminating event on May 19
  • Van Ton-Quinlivan, Vice Chancellor, Workforce & Economic Development Division, CA Community Colleges hosted a reception for participating colleges on the eve of the Culmination Celebration.
  • CCC Maker had a booth at the Bay Area Maker Faire and Carol Pepper-Kittredge, Statewide Project Manager, was on two panel presentations
  • Deborah Bird and Carol Pepper-Kittredge as well as several colleges participated in the Maker Ed 3rd Annual Maker Educator Convening in May and held a Higher Education meet-up at the event
  • Deborah Bird and Salomon Davila, CCC Maker TAP, have been meeting with colleges to refine their implementation plans and proposals due June 16

CCC Maker Project Updates – January 19

Progress on the CCC Maker Initiative as of January 19, 2017:

  • Confirmed 35 Colleges’ Intent to Participate. They will receive $40,000 seed grants to participate in Makerspace Start-up through June 2017
  • Continued to offer a series of Ecosystem Mapping webinars
  • Planned upcoming webinars that will offer resources for colleges planning makerspaces

CCC Project Updates – January 11, 2017

Initiative Update on January 11, 2017

In December 2016, the CCC Maker project:

  • Distributed Information to eligible colleges about applying for a $40,000 seed grant to participate in Makerspace Start-up from December 2016-June 2017
  • Offered an introductory webinar on CCC Makerspace Start-up
  • Conducted the first Ecosystem Mapping webinar.

Newsletter now available

The CCC Maker project published its first newsletter in November providing an update on the project.

The advisory committee met in October to provide strategic direction and CCC Maker presented at the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship (NACCE). Additionally, Pasadena City College was selected as the Technical Assistance Provider (TAP) to help colleges develop makerspaces.
